In the past couple weeks I read the shining by Stephan king with my book club. It was a great book and I loved reading it. There was a theme that pain remains even when the actual person isn't there or has died. In many horror books and movies ghosts are the tortured souls of dead people.
Pain is one of the strongest emotions so like many horror writers Stephan king showed how even after somebody is gone there suffering can remain. He shows this in the way Jack is haunted by the memories of his father and the ghosts of people in the hotel. The people died painfully in the hotel and there imprints stayed on to haunt the hotel
The ghosts in the hotel are all people who were killed in the hotel and at the end of the book jack joins them. Pain stays with you . Danny and Wendy will remember that horrible experience for the rest of their lives

twelfth night : shakespeare
There is a theme of foolish love in the book. Multiple characters are in love with the idea of love . The characters don't really seem to care about who they marry as long as they are marrying someone.
Olivia latches onto the first attractive person who shows her any affection. viola sympathises with her grief . In the entire story that moment with viola really was the only time somebody was kind to Olivia without any ulterior motive . Though Olivia is shallow and sometimes inconsiderate she shows multiple times that she really cares about sir Toby and Malvolio even though she knows Malvolio is a little insane.
Duke Orsino wants to be in love .He listens to love songs and he courts a girl who can not reciprocate his feelings and who he never sees. he wants Olivia to love him back but as soon as anyone else (viola) shows affection towards him he marrys her.
Teens today also have a similar mind set where the end all be all is to be in a relation ship and they usually don't care who its with. Some middle school kids will say they don't want to be in a relationship but as soon as somebody shows them affection or asks them out they are "in love" with that person who before they asked them out meant nothing to them.

Abandonment themes in "the Museum of Extraordinary things"
I am reading the book "the museum of extraordinary things" by Alice Hoffman . So far I have noticed there seems to be a theme of people being abandoned or suddenly disappearing. In the lives of both Eddie and Coralie there is much historical change taking place , subways are being built , industrialization is at it's peak and Conney island is gaining attention. Along with this historical change there are many personal changes going on in the characters lives.
Coralie has only ever had one constant in her life, her father, but at the beginning of the book it is foreshadowed that her father abandons her on the streets of Brooklyn. In the first 10 years of her life so many people have disappeared from her life. Her mother died . Many attractions who she became accustomed to seeing were fired by her father. Her nurse who was like a mother figure seems to have disappeared. There was also a little baby her father was considering using as an attraction was sold away right in front of her. All theses thins in her life are changing and she has no control over them . People in her life are constantly disappearing.
Eddie was abandoned emotionally by his father then he physical abandoned his father. He also abandoned his religion and morals. Not to mention his entire job is finding people and looking for people who have left there families . He says he is able to do his job so well because he is one of those people who has abandoned there family to find a new life. Coralie is completely vulnerable ,constantly being abandoned. This might be why Coralie is attracted to Eddie , because he is familiar he is someone who feels abandoned as well so she may connect with him on a subconscious level.

dog sees god: confessions of a teenage block head by bert v. royal
I read the play dog sees god :confessions of a teenage blockhead by Bert V. Royal. The play is about what the peanuts characters would be like as teenagers. The story is set right after Snoopy's death . At the beginning of the play Charley brown is writing to his old pen pal and at one point he says "may be you just read my letters and laughed or maybe you didn't read my letters or maybe you don't even exist. It was pretty frustrating when I was young ,but now I'm glad you wont respond just listen. That's what I want." This got me thinking ,we humans have a tendency to settle for things because it's just easier to except what you have ,no matter how awful, then to go after something good. I think this especially related to teens because teenagers tend to be the most insecure.
Every one wants that perfect person they can turn to with anything who will listen to them and respond exactly the way you want them to. Evan if his pen pal doesn't respond at least they listen. Teens so often feel like no one really cares about their opinion so if there is someone out there who Will just listen to you unconditionally any teen would happily talk to them. Charley brown settles for his "pen-pal" because he knows the pen pal will just listen to him .No real person that he knows of would have the courtesy to simply listen or be there for him.
Charley brown is settling for this imaginary person who never responds because he has no one else to turn to .Like many teens Charley brown feels he has no one to talk to, he feels alone. He has nobody to talk to but his elementary school pen pal .Many teens feel alone and don't have many people to talk to.
Even if he did have someone else to turn to he wouldn't go to them because he is so scared they'll say something mean or hurtful. Many people especially teens are scared of what others will think of them. Teens are often scared to open up to another person because they are scared of judgement or criticism. Charley brown settles for an imaginary person because he is to scared to open up to a real person.
Charley brown is a relatable character for most teens because he settles for less then he deserves because he feels he has no other option and he's scared to look for something better.

Summer reading
Hello my name is Zoe M. and I'm going to be telling you about my summer reading as well as my reading life. I don't get a lot of time to read but I really love to read. I find it fun to escape to an alternate reality. I really like classics written by Shakespeare ,Jane Austin and the Bronte sisters but I also enjoy teen novels with relatable characters.
Over the summer I was in a play of one flew over the coukoo's nest ,so I read the play and the book by Ken Kesey. I also read extensively on mental illness such as schizophrenia ,different medications ,withdrawal, and lobotomies;an out dated medical procedure consisting of removing or scrabbling the frontal lobe of the brain using an ice pic shoved through the nasal passage. I also researched mental institutions ,and shock therapy ;the use of an electronic shock to to induce a seizure supposedly providing relief from psychiatric illness. Over all I read mostly non fiction and some realistic historical fiction.
